Welcome

Welcome to my blog, read about the things I love and the things I made. I'm in to all sorts of crafting, but mostly paper and fabric projects.

Color Inspiration Challenge #49

This is my card for Kristinas color inspiration. I cut out a square from the card base and 3D taped the blue cardstock from the inside. The blue color was not exactly the way I wanted it from the beginning, but a few sweeps with my old chalks changed that quick and easy :-) Then I placed a few different buttons at the bottom of the card. The colors of the buttons turned out a bit more red then they really are. All buttons are pink except the one on the left that is more apricot. The dragonfly is stamped on transparency and the body is made of beads. And some diamond stickles on the wings as well. I like to think of it as a dragonfly that is flying over a pond… (”Grattis” is swedish for “congratulations”)

Try to learn a new skill…

This book arrived at my door step today! Can you imagine all the flowers are made of clay?

There was a segment on Martha Stewart Show that caught my eye… I tried the technique with paper clay but that didn’t work out. The paper clay cracked. I will try other clays that is avalible at my local craft store, but I like to have the “real one”. It’s avalible over here

This is a new craft for me, hopefully I get to have beautiful flowers all over my home soon…

Easter Cards

Here are my Easter cards for this year. I like the pastel colors. I free hand cut all the eggs and the grass. I printed out some egg shapes and traced them on cardstock. Then I stamped them with different stamps. And a lot of dimensionals…

Desk top box

This is a tutorial on how to make a cute little box that is perfect for your desk top. I use it to store notepads in. I always have a notepad handy for jotting down tips and ideas. I plan on having one box for each topic, one for photography tips, one for sewing tips and so on.

You find the printable here

I made this out of Bazzill cardstock and it holds up very well. I filled it with 2 notepads and it holds.

Okay, lets go!

Start by printing the template, then roughly cut out the shape of it. I trimmed it to fit exactly on the corner of the cardstock to save paper. (Look at the arrows) Then apply some repositionable adhesive  to it and place it on the cardstock. Cut out along all the outer edges. ( I have done a few changes to the printable so it will be easier to understand) I use scissors for cutting but an exacto knife will work as well.

Go ahead and score all the lines that says “score” (yes thats the way to go *wink*) Don’t remove the template until you are finished cutting and scoring.

The cutting and scoring is done, and I’ve removed the template, you can save that for later if you like.

Everything is nicely folded and I rounded the corners with a small corner rounder punch. If you use a big corner rounder, you need to trim the flaps a bit. This is the time to do some stamping and decorating. I don’t, like it clean.

Put some strong adhesive of your choice on the flaps and glue the box together. I use some white clear dry type of craft glue, but sticky strip or scor-tape works as well.

This is how it looks when it’s done. Cute! We have installed a big notice board that covers the wall over our desk. That means I can have 50 of this boxes if I want!

This is the way I attached the box, I even found matching thumbtacks in my stash!

Hello card

I need to make a card for a wonderful woman that bought me a lot of measuring cup sets. In my country we use the metric system so it makes it very complicated to use american recipes. But now that will not be a problem any more! It was my dad who was visiting her family that  brought them home to Sweden. But I don’t know if she speaks English or Swedish (her husband is swedish) so I made this card in swedish and I will do another if she speaks english.

I chalked the letters with the old fashioned type of chalks, i think they give a smother appearance than the fluid once. In real the button is the same blue color as the dots on the letters.  (Hej is swedish for Hi)

Card box

This is a box that is perfect as a gift, I made 5 cards and added envelopes as well. You can easily fit more cards in to it if you like, the box is made from a tutorial that Dawn Griffith made.  It is easy to make the box and you can decorate it in millions of ways ( of course…) The writing is Swedish for “wishing”

DIY Camera strap cover

I seen so many beautiful camera straps in different places. I decided to make my own one. This is the process of making a beautiful camera strap fast and easy. It is only a cover, the original one will stay the same. And you don’t have to buy a new strap for this project.Take the cover of and wash it as well!

Before & after

To begin with you need to figure out the measurements of you particular strap. My measurements is 19 inches long and 1 5/8 inches wide. I measured a bit over the “leather things” at each end of the strap so it will cover my yellow stripes all the way. Measure the with on the widest part of the strap. For me that was the “leather things”.  Otherwise the cover will be to narrow to slide over the camera strap.

Then I went ahead and made myself a little sketch and figured out how I would make my cutting.

Add seam allowances and a 1/4 inch room for your strap to easy slide through the cover.  I used 1/2 inch seem allowances and my cutting then is 20 by 3 1/2. This may not be the same on your strap.

I cut out a pre-washed piece of fabric ( I don’t like my cover to shrink if I wash it later)

I like to have my camera strap cover batted with something that will prevent it from sliding and give me a more soft feeling to my neck. I found a foam thing that is supposed to go under your dish drainer and so on. This material is very cheap and easy to work with. I cut the foam the same size my camera strap measures.

Then I folded the fabric in half and pressed it with the wrong sides together. Open it up and fold your seam allowances and press again with wrong sides together. It should look like this

Fold the seam allowances at the shorter ends and do a straight stitch close to the edge.

I put the foam stripe inside the folded fabric and closed it. Forgot to take a picture at this step but I think you get the idea. Place the foam so it’s a little piece of room on each side and pin it together. Fold the seam allowances so the foam won’t show true on the edge.  straight stitch along both sides close to the edges.

When this is done it looks like this

It’s time to slide the cover onto the camera strap. To do this in an easy way I took a piece of tape and put it on a long fabric measurement stick that goes all the way through the cover. make sure the side with the batting is the one facing the neck. Attach the strap to your camera and you are ready for a shooting.

Day 31 3D effect

Well this is my last challenge! I like that is over! It’s been fun to do this, and it has definitely get me going! I have thousands of projects in my head waiting to get stared.

Today I made this teeny tiny card, the focus is 3D effect, but you can’t overdo it just for that. So I think it’s best the way this card is, the frame is raised and the letters are thick.  The writing says something like “have a jolly good day!” I wish you all just that!
